Our Middle School

The sincere love of learning that we strive to instill early in every student's education continues to be of vital importance in Middle School. Students attend sophisticated core classes and continue a wide range of studies, as the academic demands and expectations increase each year.

The “House” System

Each advisory group in the Middle School is part of a House System that works to celebrate our school values and to encour年龄 school spirit and 服务. Houses are named for our school colors (past and present) and values (Green-Integrity, White-Loyalty, and Blue-Civility) and are comprised of one homeroom from each grade level, 6th through 8th.

Each House works as a team to earn House points through participation in school events, 服务 opportunities, extracurricular activities, 体育, and then dis玩s of academic progress, and adherence to the Code of Conduct and Honor Code.

Individual students also have opportunities, 每一天, to earn points for their Houses by demonstrating exemplary behaviors that show kindness, good manners, active participation, a positive attitude, 服务, 动机, and responsibility.

The year culminates with the awarding of the House Cup to the House that has earned the highest number of points that school year.

The Middle School 课程

Within the house system, the same material is presented to each group but the degree of guidance through the material varies for each student, as do the supplementary challenges.

We have a traditional curriculum where emphasis is placed on student understanding and application of the content presented by our teachers in a conventional but engaging classroom setting:

In the 2024-2025 school year, BWL will open our first 纽约 Sun Works hydroponic and aquaponic farm in the 11th Floor 科学 实验室. This farm will be utilized by all students in Kindergarten through 8th grade to learn essential knowledge in biology, sustainability, and agriculture. 

 

An intensive and tailored curriculum serves the particular needs of students in Grades 6, 7和8, making our Middle School program at BWL an ideal environment for young people.
